Border Wall

 Border Wall

We were afraid of you, we built a wall

Kicked you out

Go back where you belong!

The line was drawn

I cut out the part of my heart that still felt

Given a choice, stand up, or follow the leader

 Divided

Stone upon stone

We laid down the wall

Lawfully by the rule of mob

Where have all the people gone?

They were replaced by unfeeling robots

 #We’redoomed

If I look hard enough I can still see you

Somewhere beyond the wall

Still think we can be saved?

I watch the birds  in envy

None was ever interrogated

Where are you from, crow

Show your passport, black bird

Only I can’t fly over walls

The world goes on

Or so people say

I don’t go there

It’s still green here

Border guards patrol

While we wait

You heard about the statue scandal

Even without liberty, no, you may not take back the statue!

In her face, she is mocking us

Liberty herself, stone she may be

Can see better without eyes

Hold that thought, while I check Facebook

What happens if we step out of line?

Go against the crowd?

Unplug

I walk along the wall at times

Are you there on the other side?

If I call, will you hear me?

We’ve changed so much

I’d say, how?

I don’t want to disappear

Twenty people liked what I had for dinner last night

Ever just pick up the phone and ask them directly?

I can’t know why the law states that truth is fake

Maybe it’s we who are fake

How can a heart hurt years after it’s cut out?

The ground shakes

We go on pretending,

Smiling as our world shatters

The cracks grow bigger,

We could crawl to the other side

Alone in this reality we made

Who can save us from ourselves?

Merry Christmas from our team at Facebook!

Plugged into the system

Ignoring the apocalypse just outside our bubble

What is that white on the ground?

I kneel, it’s so cold

I can’t deny five feet of snow

Walking along the wall

I see a light shining bright like a beacon of hope!

It comes crashing down

Nothing now but a pile of stones

My defenses down

I look across

Lights shine

Putting one foot in front

 Crossed over

As snow falls

We stand watching as borders fall apart,

people remain
